Riding bicycles

It is fine weather for riding bicycle.
On Sunday and Monday,
my wife and I ride a bicycle consecutively.

Doctor diagnosed me
with high blood pressure.
He recommanded some strenuous exercise.
My wife fancies herself my trainer. :)

Sunday's course was 50km
there and back.
My wife's hardtail MTB
My all mountain MTB

The turn.
The riding course joined
along the brook.
The rural scenery
in and around there is good.

Today(Monday),
we ride at Namhangang river.
Its bikeway was built lately.

There has a fine view.
The nationwide bikeway
that is more than 3000km
will be completed
about this time next year.

I'm exhausted after that long riding
because my bike is fixed gear bike.
:)

My next challange

On last Monday,
I bought some weaving material
at shopping mall in central Seoul.

I will immerse myself in weaving
during the winter vacation.
Inkle loom, weaving cards,
shuttle, cotton threads etc.

Weaving cards and shuttle...
Showy pattern trim, belt...

I add some felt for hat.
I'll make my felt outdoor hat. :)

I make a pickup stick
for inkle loom with oak wood.

(Quoted photo)

I'll have a nice hat like that.
I want to familiarize myself with
low techs of the world.
It will improve my understanding
about thing and life.

Another walking stick

I got the straight long bough
of a fallen tree at the last week camp.
I prune it and make a walking stick.
 The stick that you see
to the right is this.
The left is my main stick.

I dedicate this my wife. :)
Thus colorful leash is installed.
I hope her to understand my situation completely.

Preventing splitting, my stick is
put aluminium pipes at both ends.
But this stick has no problem,
because its material is oriental oak.

Ground end :
I drive iron cores
and put rubber shoes.

These sticks will guide me into the right path. :)

Paddling and camping at Hongcheongang river

The headache keep me delaying
my departure.
I arrive in Hongcheongang river
at five.

Autumn river is quiet,
my headache will get well.

Two friends, Coolfish and Jiwoo's father,
had arrived already around Baebawi,
they had built camp.

Night falls...
Bread is baked in
Coolfish's diy folding oven.

Bread and coffee...
I stave off my hunger with these.

We sleep in the open,
with bedrolls that are made separate way.

Good morning paddling...
I add more tumble home in my canoe.
It improve its speed.

Left : our camp
Right : Baebawi, some campers
encamp around there.

Trees put on autumnal tints.
These make me aware of Paradise.

The front view of Beabawi.
Beabawi means 'rock in ship shape'

A narrow trail is broken
from here to nearby village.

This river side trail is
about 2km.

I give wild chrysanthemum tea
as a present to two friends.
They give a favorable comment
upon its taste.

Jiwoo's father prunes
a tree for walking stick
with his Thor.

Three Old Town's Pack canoes
gather for the first time.

Wild chrysanthemum tea

I gather wild chrysanthemum flowers
in my backyard.
There's an abundance of these.

It is better to gather
before being in full bloom,
but I am late a bit.

Blanching flowers in boiling saltwater.
Salt aids color to be vivid.
For strong scent,
only wash and dry.

Dry it in the shade.
I use dehydrator for being impatient.
This tea is known to heal
a headache and dizziness.

This tea should be kept hermetically sealed.
Its taste similars to chamomile tea.
We are reaching the height of autumn.

Axes from flea market

Sunday afternoon, I buy
two axes from military junk yard.
I make an ax handle
as soon as I get home.

These handles are painted
with sap of the lacquer tree.

The first ax is a Cold Steel's throw ax.
Its seller has ax head only.
The second is a Morris's hatchet.
It has changed a long handle.
Fortunately, original handle
has been keeping.

I restore Morris's hatchet.
Morris's producer is
'Morris of Dunsford in Devon'
This smithy has produced
agriculural edge tool since 1824.

Cold Steel's blade is sharp enough,
but Morris need to sharpening.

I think I make a good bargain,
I get good axes. :)

My main axes asset.

Chisels from files

I need round edge chisel for woodwork.
Files worn out seem to fit for my purpose.

Chisel blades are made
with cutting machine
and hand grinder.

The blades are fixed into wooden handle
in red-hot iron condition.

These handles are painted
with sap of the lacquer tree.

Six homemade woodcraft tools set!
My heart is some full. :)

Small possible bag

After lefting the office at one,
I pass time making a small leather bag
on rainy Saturday afternoon.

The first fitting edition is finished.
The fringe is too highly visible.
The color is dissatisfied.

I varnish it with sap of the lacquer tree.
This lacquer is safe because
its poisonous constituent is removed.

I give 3-5 coats of laquer.
Sap of the lacquer tree is
natural in color.

I add a water buffalo horn button
with an elastic cord.
Opening and shutting cover
is easy relatively.

Width : 240mm
Height : 240mm (exclusive of fringe)
Weight : 460g

It will take on a role of
commute bag for a while.
I'll be more pleased about going to work. :)
